By the way, a lot of the points made by Ted in the message above fits my thinking as well. My wife and I moved here last June, and we are retired. There was nothing forthcoming about what the costs would be, nothing about what the levy meant in terms of better education for the kids (I mean specifics, not some general comment). What is the thinking on having one campus for the entire district? What is wrong with having neighborhood schools instead of busing all the kids to a central site? I have not seen anything from your town leaders, nothing from your business leaders, nothing from your chamber of commerce concerning support for this issue? You need to tell those who have no kids in the district what this issue means for the entire town. If you want more business, you have to have a good school district to draw people in. But you need to address other issues in partnership with the civic, business, and school leaders. Kenton has a lot of potential, but your thinking is from the 50s; basically it’s vote for this because we said so. That’s not good enough for me. Like everyone else, I am not in favor of paying more taxes, but I will pay more taxes if I understand the why’s and what it means for the overall school district and the town… I haven’t seen anything that even vaguely comes close to that.

The ad in today’s Kenton paper is a total turn-off. If you think this “let’s make a deal” is going to sway people, you are totally off base. I voted “yes” for the levy the first time, even though I had no real information because I think the kids deserve a better situation. However, this ad today plus the one last week or so is not a way to keep my vote. What is the matter with you people?? Address the issue of why this is good for the kids… tell people what their “yes” vote will buy for the kids of today and tomorrow. Tell them what their “no” vote will do to the kids of today and tomorrow. But this stupid ad of “let’s make a deal” tells me that your campaign is doomed for failure if this is the best this group can do.

As a current member of the Kenton High School Top 20 and musical, I have a simple question regarding the cutting of the Top 20 should the levy on the May 8 ballot not pass. I understand that it is necessary to make cuts to allow the school district to function properly, but I feel cutting the Top 20 program before cutting the Middle School Dimensions group is a poor use of school funds. My sister is a member of the Dimensions so I do not make this suggestion without thought to those who will be most directly affected. The Dimensions is one of the only middle school show choirs in the state of Ohio and is primarily functional in preparing students for hogh school show choir, but if there is no high school show choir, I do not see a point in having a middle school show choir. I simply ask that the board consider cutting the Dimensions program before cutting the Top 20 program. Thank you for your time.

Hello to all…. My husband and I are parents of two Kenton City students. My kids are fairly young and are still in elementray schools and when we heard that a committee was talking about putting the kids in “campus wear” instead of enforcing the dress code they have now, we were disgusted. We are completely dead set against this whole idea. We believe that it takes away the kids’ individuality and creativeness. I don’t see all the dress code problems being corrected because of new policies on campus wear. The old dress code is fine the way it is…parents and teachers need to crack down on the ones who wear stuff that show too much, doesn’t cover enough, or has offensive logos, etc.. If I was a teacher and I saw someone walk into my classroom that wore stuff that was too revealing you can bet your paychecks that kid would be sent to the office for dress code violations. There is a time a place where you can wear certain kinds of clothes. Wearing shorts that show your butt crack and itty bitty shirts, or pants that barely hang below your waste showing underwear, is not appropiate for school..its fine at home, with your friends or at the mall but not at school. We also think that its not fair to punish an entire school system because there is a few kids that want to dress “flashy” and their parents and teachers don’t want to say anything to them. Also it is true that not everyone is going to be able to afford this drastic clothing change. Leave “Campus Wear” to private schools…it has no place in public schools, and for cryin out loud enforce the current dress code…crack down on the ones who violate it. We are sure of one thing…these kids go to uniforms…theres a good chance that our kids won’t go to Kenton schools next year if we can help it.

i think that campus wear would be bad because it would take away indivduallaty. and in the summer mooonths it woould be very hot because in dress clothes it gets really hot and that is why i don’t think that campus wear should be adopted for kenton city schools

Hi. My name is Mandy. I understand the concept of campus wear, but I don’t like it. I think that kids who follow dress codes should not be punished for what other students wear. I am a student who follows the dress code and most of my friends as well. Maybe you could consider giving students the campus wear who break the code and not to those of us who do not. Those of us (like me) who take the rules seriously should not be punished, it’s just straight up unfair. Thanks.
